KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said bilateral ties between Malaysia and India look set to flourish in his three-day visit to New Delhi where he will be attending the Asean India Commemorative Summit.

Najib, apart from attending the two-day summit, which will see India hosting 10 Asean countries, is also scheduled to meet his counterpart Narendra Modi for bilateral talks.

“If my past visit (to India) resulted in long-term investments worth RM158 billion, I am confident that this visit will bring Asean-India and Malaysia closer. Although I have a tight schedule, InsyaAllah (God willing), everything will run smoothly,” he said.

The summit themed “Shared Values, Common Destiny” is held in conjucntion with the 25th anniversary of Asean-India dialogue relations.

Najib is one of the 10 Asean heads of state and government to attend the event held in the Indian capital.

“Many things will be discussed and highlighted involving topics of trade, investment, connectivity, security as well as geo-political considerations,” he said.

He added that he had just completed discussions with government officials who worked hard in ensuring the success of the event.

Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived in New Delhi yesterday to attend the summit.

Earlier he attended an official luncheon hosted by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in honour of the Asean heads of state and government before proceeding to a closed-door retreat session on maritime cooperation and security.-NST
