KUALA LUMPUR - A senator yesterday said Barisan Nasional (BN) should be given an A+ rating for its commitment in defending the people and contribution towards the nation''s prosperity.

Rahemah Idris said the rating should be given following several successes under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The government had always ensured that there is peace, prosperity and the welfare of the people is protected. Solving the diplomatic row between Malaysia and North Korea after the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader was a good example,

"As such, do not deny the fact that BN had done a lot of good for the welfare and prosperity of the people. False accusations should not be directed at the government as they had always been committed to the people and country," she said when debating the motion of thanks on the royal address at the Dewan Negara sitting today.

Rahemah said among achievements by the government led by the prime minister was bringing home the 11 Malaysians who were detained in Pyongyang, North Korea and the release of five crew of the tugboat, Serudong Tiga, who were kidnapped by Abu Sayaff terrorists in the Dent Haven waters in Lahad Datu on July 18 last year.

Meanwhile, Senator Datuk Mustapa Kamal Mohd Yusoff in his debate also criticised the opposition for being irresponsible and willing to sabotage the economy in an effort to discredit the government and use this as their weapon.

"They would politicise every issue to raise doubts about BN. They try to cover their weaknesses in the opposition-led states by making wild accusations that BN is full of fraud, corruption and abuse of power," he said.

According to him the main target of the opposition was the Rapid project which involved an investment of RM31 billion by Saudi Aramco and RM144 billion investment from China.

He said the prime minister''s perseverance and patience had made foreign investors understand that what was heard from the opposition were part of a political game to thwart the government''s efforts in encouraging foreign investment.

"Those who defame the government for economic sabotage should be dealt with through the existing laws and provisions," he said.
