KUCHING : Sarawak People's Party (PRS) Youth echoed the call made by the Prime Minister that he is ready to discuss on the Malaysian Agreement 1963 and at the same time concur with their President, Tan Sri Dr. James Masing idea.
In their statement, PRS Youth Info Chief Andy Lawrence said that the Prime Minister has shown his quality as a leader when he is willing to listen and discuss about MA63 with both states Sabah and Sarawak but Prime Minister will eventually be a better leader if he walk the talk.
“We think he had heard enough about MA63 from Sabah and Sarawak people and leaders. Hence, we believe that negotiation should start now.
"To start the ball rolling, act on some demand, if not all. As for Sarawak for example, to announce the increased of the oil royalty to the two states and autonomy to the Sarawak Education,
"We are not asking for anything beyond the MA63, but we need to acknowledge that the MA63 will be the basis for negotiation.," he said to Sarawakiana.
On Masing’s idea that talks should be held in a right manner, the Youth Wing also believe that negotiation should be held by stripping all the elements of emotion and focus more on the fact. A four wall concept of negotiation is also acceptable as talks can commence without any outside intimidation.
At this point the PM should start to elaborate in details on how the mechanism of negotiation need to be carried out. If the negotiation may come in stages, at least the people of Sabah and Sarawak need to be well-informed on what are issues to be negotiated during initial stage and the direction of the negotiation," he explained.
He said, the youth also pointed out that both Sabah and Sarawak are quite reasonable in their demands and they look forward to welcome any negotiation with good resolution, plus establishing a common interest for the betterment of the country.
"We also hoped that all parties involve in the agreement will be able to resist the urge of getting into an arguement. The Youth highlighted that in order to achieve a negotiation with good terms, one must be able to understand the persepctives of the people of sabah and sarawak pertaining to MA63.
“As John F Kennedy once said, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.” he said. -Sarawakiana
