MIRI: Police believe they have solved six cases of break-ins in homes and other premises around the city with the arrest of three suspects dubbed “Ting’s Gang” yesterday (Sept 4).
Miri acting police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the suspects – aged 37, 40 and 16 – were detained in two separate locations.
“The first two suspects -a man (37) and a woman (40) were arrested by detectives from Miri central police station (CPS) at around 4.30am on Sunday morning in Pujut Tanjung Batu,” he said during a press conference today.
“At the time of the arrest, the suspects were in a car, and after further inspection, the detectives found a laptop suspected to be stolen item,” he added.
Both suspects were later brought to CPS for questioning.
Further investigations of the two suspects led to the arrest of the third suspect (16 year-old suspect).
The third suspect was arrested in a house at Piasau at around 6am the same day.
“With the arrest of the third suspect, police discovered and seized various items including 11 golf clubs, five wedding dresses, several electronic gadgets, four make-up sets, 90 face towels, one box of vape filters and more,” said Stanley.
The case is being investigated under 457 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Stanley has urged victims of break-in incidents (of the group) to lodge police reports or come forward to the police station for item identification purposes.
“We are urging victims to come and lodge police reports so that we can proceed with the item identification and prosecute the suspects in court,” he said.
All three suspects have previous records in break-ins.-BP
