KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem serenaded his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu with the song ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ in a rare public show of affection between them in conjunction with her 61st birthday yesterday.
Adenan sang the evergreen song made popular by Elvis Presley after Jamilah was presented with a birthday cake on the main stage as they graced the prize-giving ceremony for Sarawak Classic 2016 golf tournament at Kelab Golf Sarawak.
He also gave her a bouquet comprising 61 stalks of roses to commemorate the birthday. Joining them for this special occasion on the main stage were son Azizul Anwar Adenan and two grandchildren. The attendees comprising the golfers participating in the tournament also stood up and sang along with Adenan.
Earlier, tournament patron Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan in his speech praised Adenan as a very outspoken chief minister and also noted Jamilah as an extraordinary woman.
He also said Adenan used to play golf, and his golfing buddies are happy that Adenan is doing a good job in leading the state.
“The golfing buddies have been saying that they have had a wonderful golfing buddy who now becomes the greatest and best Chief Minister that we have. You (Adenan) are blessed to have this sort of friends who are very proud of you for what you are doing for the state.
“I must say looking around the whole of Malaysia, this is the only sane state. The only sane one because we have some sanity, and because we have a very, very sane Chief Minister,” said Dr Chan, himself a former deputy chief minister.
Noting the participation of golfers from Johor, he said Johor and Sarawak have something in common, as both Sultan of Johor and Chief Minister of Sarawak are very outspoken persons.
Also present were Dr Chan’s wife Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon, Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock and KGS captain Dr David Ling.- BP
