KUALA LUMPUR: The Finance Ministry has not had any dealings with the businessman said to have cheated 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), says Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani.
Johari said the ministry had only dealt with 1MDB and Abu Dhabi investment company International Petroleum Investment Company (Ipic).
“However, what has been reported by the United States’ Attorney-General is outside my jurisdiction to comment on,” Johari told reporters today.
“I want to focus on how to solve the 1MDB issue. We should leave the rest to the relevant authorities to decide.”
He said this in reference to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) cooperation with the FBI in the 1MDB investigations.
MACC had said in a statement that its cooperation would focus on the allegations of misappropriation and money laundering by a businessman said to have cheated 1MDB.
Commenting on the US Department of Justice (DoJ) filing lawsuits, Johari said the process was going on smoothly.
He said his responsibility at the moment was to ensure that no issues concerning 1MDB cropped up in the future.
When asked to comment on the Opposition calling on Prime Minister Najib Razak to resign, Johari said that decision was ultimately left to the rakyat to decide. - FMT
